The Floyd County Board of Education named three elementary school principals at its Regular Monthly Meeting on February 6th.

Shelly Bell (left), currently Interim Principal at Cave Spring Elementary, will be taking over permanently at the school. She replaces Trina Self who retired at the end of November 2017. Shelly previously served as principal at Pepperell Elementary School before retiring in 2016. She fell in love with the Cave Spring Elementary School students, staff and community during her temporary assignment and decided she might want to stay awhile longer. She holds degrees from Shorter (B.S.) West Georgia (M.Ed.) and Lincoln Memorial (Ed.S.).

Tanya Welchel (center) will become the permanent Principal at Johnson Elementary School beginning immediately. She has held the position of Interim Principal since July 2017 when she replaced La Donna Turrentine who moved to Coosa High School. Prior to that, Tanya served as the Assistant Principal and taught at Johnson Elementary for 22 years. All of her career in education has been spent at Johnson. Some of her former students are now parents at the school. Tanya hold degrees from Georgia State University (B.S. and M.Ed.) and Lincoln Memorial (Ed.S.)

Carrie Graves (right) will be leading as Principal of Glenwood Primary School, where she currently serves as Assistant Principal, starting this spring. Carrie replaces retiring Principal Jill Shepherd. Before taking on the role as assistant principal, Carrie taught for ten years at the school and also served as an instructional coach there. Prior to coming to Glenwood, she taught for seven years at Calhoun Primary School. Carrie holds degrees from Shorter (B.S.), Piedmont (M.Ed.) and Lincoln Memorial (Ed.S.)
