Board of Education to begin Community Listening Sessions

Board of Education to begin Community Listening Sessions

The first in a series of five Community Listening Sessions will be held by the Floyd County Board of Education on Thursday, August 21 at Cave Spring Elementary School.  There will be a session in each of the high school districts and in Cave Spring in the next few weeks.  The sessions will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the respective schools.

The board wishes to use this time to hold a discussion with the community regarding the progress of the school system and hopes for the future.  Each session will begin with entertainment from a school in the community.  The entertainment will be followed by a short presentation about progress in the system and each will conclude with open questions from the audience.  All parents and interested community members are invited to attend the sessions.

The schedule for the meetings includes:

  • Thursday, August 21 at Cave Spring Elementary:  The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the school auditorium with the Cave Spring Chorus performing a jazz program.
  • Tuesday, August 26 at Model High School:  The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the school auditorium with the Model band performing.
  • Thursday, September 4 at Pepperell High School:  The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the school auditorium with a student musical performance.
  • Monday, September 8 at Armuchee High School:  The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the school auditorium.  Glenwood Primary and Armuchee Elementary students will assist with the pledge and the national anthem.  The Armuchee Middle and Armuchee High bands will perform.
  • Thursday, September 11 at Coosa High:  The meeting will begin at 6:30 in the school auditorium with a student musical performance.
The Board of Education Community Listening Sessions are a part of an overall Intentional Listening plan for Floyd County Schools.  Intentional Listening is the process of listening from the other person’s point of view with the intention to act on what you learn.  The Floyd County Schools Intentional Listening program includes communication with teachers and staff, students, parents and the community.
