The Pepperell High Academic Decathlon team continued their run of success in the Floyd County Schools Academic Decathlon by taking their third consecutive championship in the system's premier academic competition.  The decathlon was held on Friday, January 13 at the Board of Education central office. Pepperell held off a late challenge from Coosa High to take the win.  Pepperell High finished the day with 15,544 total points, Coosa High finished a close second with a total of 14,810, Armuchee High came in third and Model High’s team placed fourth.

Keiley Rowland, a senior at Coosa High, was the highest scoring individual participant this year with 3223 total points. The theme for questions in this year's competition was World War II. The theme is set each year by the U.S. Academic Decathlon.

The Pepperell High team will automatically advance and represent Floyd County Schools in the state competition in February. Coosa High will be submitted for state competition to compete as a Wild Card entry.  Wild Card entries are selected based on team point totals from local school system competitions across the state and will be determined after local competitions are completed.

The Pepperell team members included seniors, Brice Green, Danielle Griesemer, Abbey Hensley, Max Rampley, Donovan Rochester, and Corey Stone; juniors, Kyle Miles, Tori Thomas and Tristen Tolbert. Juniors Stacy Aragon and Autumn Edwards competed as alternates for PHS. The Pepperell team was led by coaches Scott Wilson and Vicki Mayes.

The Academic Decathlon features three divisions of competition: Honors, Scholastic and Varsity. The academic contest includes questions in literature, math, economics, social science, science, music, and art.
