Ella Claire Chambless, a senior at Model High School, wowed the judges with a vocal solo at the annual Kiwanis Club Music Showcase to take first place and a $1,000 scholarship.  Also, four a cappella harmonizers from Coosa High and Pepperell High calling themselves Off Constantly hit the right notes to land in third place and win a $200 scholarship. The quartet included: sophomore Christopher Morgan and freshman Zac Mitchell from Coosa High School; and juniors Max Rampley and Brice Green from Pepperell High School.

Chambless recently performed for the Kiwanis Club at their lunch meeting and told the group she had received no formal voice training but she had enjoyed singing from a very early age.  She performed "Amazing Grace" to the delight of those attending the Monday midday meeting.  Chambless had a prior commitment and was not able to compete at the Kiwanis District Art and Music Showcase. The second place winners will represent the local Kiwanis Club at the event to be held April 30 in Albany, Georgia.  Unfortunately, that is the same day as the Model High School Junior/Senior Prom.

Off Constantly was a group put together very recently while the four crooners were performing in the production of "The Phantom of the Opera."  The four decided they liked performing together and wanted to continue their association through performance after the play's final show.  Christopher Morgan played the role of The Phantom, Zac Mitchell played Monsieur Firmin, Max Rampley played Raoul, Vicomte de Chagny and Brice Green played the Auctioneer.  Zac Mitchell also will play the role of Shrek in the coming Rome Little Theatre production of Shrek Jr. the Musical.

The Kiwanis Music Showcase was the club's sixth annual opportunity for local students to win scholarships and advance to Kiwanis District competition.  The event was held at Shorter College and presented a total of $1,500 in educational scholarships.
