Johnson Elementary hosted a “Color Run” recently to raise money for the purchase of technology for children to use in the classroom. The Color Run’s focus was to “shake off” the negative and “stir up” learning at Johnson Elementary. Lori Casey, one of the race organizers and a Pre-K teacher, said “What better way to raise funds for technology than shaking things up with a color run?”
Fundraising kicked off on September 14 when ESPY award winning athlete, Krige Schabort, spoke to teachers and students about the importance of “never giving up.” “At Johnson we never give up,” Casey exclaimed. “Our teachers rally to support each other and our administration does ‘whatever it takes’ to meet the needs of our children.”
The goal of the fundraiser is to open the vast amount of research and learning available through the use of technology for teachers and students. The school will use the funds raised to purchase Google Chromebooks. The end goal is well in reach for the fundraiser, with over $10,000 already earned and funds still coming in from the colorful activity.
Fundraising doesn’t stop with the JES Color Run. The school will have other fund raising opportunities for the community to get involved with the PTO Fall Festival this Saturday, Lego night for Pre-K and a Miss JES Pageant in November, the “Johnson’s Got Talent” talent show in February and a JES coin drop in March.
