LSGT Area Meetings
Board to meet with Governance Teams on superintendent selection

The Floyd County Board of Education has scheduled area meetings with Local School Governance Teams to gather information about the qualities and qualifications the community would like to see in a new superintendent.  The meetings will be open to the community and will also include an opportunity for those attending to provide their feedback.

The meetings will include members of each school Local School Governance Team from high school attendance areas.  The governance teams include the principal of the school, two parents, two school staff members and two community representatives.  The LSGTs are part of the Charter System governance the school system has used for the last five years. 
The meeting dates and locations are:
  • Tuesday, September 8 at 6 p.m. at Pepperell High School in the PHS media center. The meeting will include the LSGT groups from McHenry Primary, Pepperell Primary, Pepperell Elementary, Pepperell Middle School and Pepperell High School.
  • Thursday, September 17 at 6 p.m. at Model High School in the MHS media center.  The meeting will include the LSGT groups from Johnson Elementary, Model Elementary, Model Middle, Model High and Floyd County Schools College and Career Academy.
  • Monday, September 21 at 6 p.m. at Armuchee High School in the AHS media center.  The meeting will include the LSGT groups from Glenwood Primary, Armuchee Elementary, Armuchee Middle, and Armuchee High.
  • Tuesday, September 22 at 6 p.m. at Coosa High School in the CHS auditorium.  The meeting will include the LSGT groups from Alto Park Elementary, Cave Spring Elementary, Garden Lakes Elementary, Coosa Middle and Coosa High.
LSGT members have responded to a survey regarding the qualities and qualifications desired in a superintendent.  Their responses will be reviewed during the meeting to help the board get a clear picture of the type of person the governance teams would like to see selected to lead the school system.

Those attending the meetings will be able to take the survey after the meeting to provide additional input from the community for the board to consider.  The survey will be available on the school system website in late September for additional community involvement in the selection of a new superintendent.  "The board wants to hear from the community during this selection of a new superintendent to lead our schools," stated George Bevels, chairman of the Floyd County Board of Education. "This is the most important decision the board can make and we want to involve our governance teams through our charter process and we also want to get the community involved."   

The board has secured the services of the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA) to assist in the logistics of the search for a superintendent.  The community survey to determine qualities and qualifications was developed by GSBA.
