Courtney Hutcherson, a fifth grader at Armuchee Elementary, has won the district level competition of the Modern Woodmen of America Speech Contest.  The speech competition was held Tuesday, May 5 at West End Elementary School in Rome.

Hutcherson won a trophy, pin and $50 prize as the winner of the speech contest. Participants were to speak about a landmark of interest to them in the competition.  The landmark did not have to be famous.  Hutcherson spoke about a configuration of rocks near the creek bank on her family's property.  The property has been in her family for four generations.  She shared the past history of the property, current family time spent on the creek bank and her hopes for the future.

Trenton Perry, a fifth-grader at Armuchee Elementary, was also a participant in the district event.

Hutcherson will advance to the regional level of competition in the Modern Woodmen of America contest.  The regional will be held next Tuesday in Dalton.
