Armuchee High earns 76 Microsoft certifications
Posted on 05/30/2014
computersArmuchee High School completed the first year of Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) testing recently with a total of 76 MOS certificates earned by students and their instructors. Armuchee High School now has the prestigious designation of being known as an accredited Microsoft IT Academy, which allows students to earn industry recognized credentials in Word 2010, PowerPoint 2010, Excel 2010, Access 2010, Word 2010 Expert, and Excel 2010 Expert.

A total of 25 Armuchee High students and instructors earned Word 2010 certification, 49 were successful on PowerPoint 2010, and two earned an Excel 2010 certificate. Nine Armuchee students along with one instructor earned industry certification in two areas. Freshmen, Ashley Jones; Grahm Jones; Shivam Mehta; Farrin Mumpower; Chase Shepard; Conner Vinson; and Robert West all earned certificates in Word 2010, and PowerPoint 2010. Sophomores, Jesse Hunter and Ciara Zarr, also earned two separate certificates in Word 2010 and PowerPoint 2010.

Earning MOS certification gives students the opportunity to learn the computing skills many companies are looking for in today’s competitive job market. In a recent IDC study, of 14.6 million job postings between April and September of 2013 that looked at different skills employers were looking for in an employee, Microsoft Office was the only software package listed within the top 20 skills across all occupations. Specifically, when looking at high-growth/high salary positions Microsoft Office was ranked the second highest needed skill. Earning the certificate will give students the extra edge when applying for jobs after high school.
