Caleb Cole, a senior at Pepperell High School, has won the annual Kiwanis Music Showcase competition scholarship and the opportunity to represent the Rome area in the district Kiwanis competition.  The local event showcases the areas best high school musical talent and gives students the opportunity to advance their educational and performing aspirations. Cole played the French horn in the competition to secure the top prize of a $500.00 scholarship.  The scholarship is funded by the Kiwanis Club of Rome and the Rome Area Council for the Arts.

Cole's French horn, and his skill in playing it, has served him well during his high school career. He was the runner-up in the Kiwanis competition in 2013 as a junior. Cole has been a standout performer in the Pepperell High School band for four years.  His talent in band and musical performance earned him a spot on the All State band for 2012 and 2014.  Cole was nominated for the 2013 Governor's Honors program in music and he was selected to the All State Chorus in 2012.

Cole plans to continue his education in the field of music at Columbus State University's Schwob School of Music in the fall. He will pursue a degree in music education at Columbus State with the aspiration of a career as a band director.  Cole said, "My ultimate goal is to be a band director at a Christian college or university, however, I am open to God's plans for my life."

The Rome Kiwanis Club is affiliated with Kiwanis International, a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child at a time. Locally, the Kiwanis Club serves children and youth through a variety of service projects. The group sponsors high school key clubs at Armuchee High, Model High, Rome High and Pepperell High to encourage service to the community at the high school level. The local club also sponsors the Circle K club at Berry College to extend the spirit of service to the collegiate ranks.

Cole is now eligible to compete in the Kiwanis Georgia District Music Competition that will be held in Carrollton, Georgia at the Carrollton Cultural Arts Center on Saturday, April, 26, 2014.  The top scholarship prize for the district competition is $3,500.00.
