“Just for Kicks” drive nets over 150 pairs of shoes
Posted on 03/26/2014
TeamsSoccer games were held yesterday between Pepperell and Armuchee but there was a much more important outcome than the scores of the games on the day.  Pepperell High’s soccer teams hosted Armuchee and the two teams got together after the game to celebrate success in their “Just for Kicks” shoe drive that concluded with the soccer contests.   Both school’s soccer programs collected  shoes for those in need in the weeks leading up to game day.  More than 150 pairs of shoes were collected during the drive, and the competitors came together after the games to load the shoes into the Salvation Army truck.

The coaches for each team coached on the sidelines without shoes and socks on a very chilly day to bring focus to the conditions those without shoes must deal with every day. The cold weather for the afternoon just added emphasis to the conditions faced by those without shoes.  “Yes, it was quite cold, but we want to thank everyone for their participation,” stated Kevin Geier, head coach of the Pepperell Lady Dragons soccer team.  “There are a few more pairs of shoes coming in and we are expecting bigger and better results for next year when we do it again.”
