Coosa senior receives ROTC scholarship

Avery JonesAvery Jones, a senior at Coosa High School, has received an Air Force ROTC - Type 7 scholarship that will pay college tuition up to the equivalent of the in-state rate at a public school and also $900 each year for book expenses.  Air Force scholarship cadets also receive a monthly allowance during the academic year and travel expenses to their Air Force ROTC detachment.

Jones is on an Honors Prep Seal track for graduation and will be a Valedictorian at Coosa High for 2014.  He was a Governor's Honors state alternate as a sophomore and a finalist as a junior.  Jones has received the Georgia Certificate of Merit and earned the Presidential Award of Excellence for three years.  At Coosa High, Jones was recognized for having the highest average in AP Calculus, he is a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society president, member of the Academic Decathlon team, math team and robotics team.  Jones was also recently awarded a Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship for $1,000.

Jones plans to major in Aeronautical Engineering and has been accepted at Auburn, Purdue, North Carolina State, and Georgia Institute of Technology.  At this time, he has not made a final decision on which school he will attend.
