Davy FisherThe Coosa Eagle and Model Blue Devil boys basketball teams won their first round games in the State Tournament to advance to the second round this week.  Both teams will travel for their games today and every contest at this point brings a tough opponent.  Coosa will travel to Atlanta to face Hapeville Charter while Model also makes their way to Atlanta to face Greater Atlanta Christian.

Coosa's game will be at the Ben Hill Recreation Center in Atlanta tonight at 7 p.m.  The Eagles earned the trip to Hapeville by defeating Kendrick High last week.  The first round win was a hard-fought overtime win with scoring spread among seven Coosa players.  Tavaris Wilson led the way with 19, Billy Bell, 14, Isaac Bradley 12 and Korley Grier added 10.

The Blue Devils may have the toughest draw of the early tournament for Floyd County teams as they take on top ranked GAC.  Greater Atlanta Christian has been the top ranked team in Class AA all season and were State Champions last year.  The Blue Devils will travel to Greater Atlanta Christian for the game at 6 p.m. today.  Model advanced to the second round with a convincing win off their own against an out-manned Jordan High team.  Model pulled away to take an easy 60 - 26 win.  V.J. Saxton led Model with 23 points but Davy Fisher was close behind with 22.
