Pepperell High School senior Evan Musick has been awarded the STAR Student award for PHS. The Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) award, sponsored by the Georgia Chamber of Commerce; the Georgia Department of Education and the Professional Association of Georgia Educators, is presented to a high school senior with the school’s highest SAT score and ranking in the top ten percent or top ten members of the school’s senior class. Each STAR student selects a STAR Teacher in the recognition program. Musick picked Pepperell High math teacher Bob McGraw as his STAR teacher.
Musick serves as chaplain for the PHS National Honor Society. He has received early acceptance to Georgia Tech, where he plans to study engineering. The STAR award was presented at a special assembly at Pepperell High and was awarded by Pepperell alum Zack Green, who presented the award on behalf of the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce.
The Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce has recognizing STAR recipients at all area high schools in the last few weeks. The individual high school winners will be in the running for the STAR Student of Floyd County Schools. The system winner will be selected on March 11, 2011. System winners will then move on to the district competition.
