Students and teachers are back in the classroom to begin the 2008-2009 school year.  The beginning of a new school year is always exciting for children and teachers.  To keep up with breaks and holidays, you can check out all of the important dates for the new school year on the system calendar available on the calendar section of our website.  You will find the calendar link in the Quick Link section below.

One of the anticipated arrivals of the new school year is the opening of the new Floyd County Schools College & Career Academy.  The new school replaces Floyd County Technical High School and will provide unprecedented preparation for students interested in career development. The school is a community partnership between Floyd County Schools, Coosa Valley Technical College and the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce.  The school is ready for the first day of classes but there will be an official Ribbon Cutting ceremony held on Tuesday, August 12 at 10:00 a.m.  State and local dignitaries, including Lt. Governor Casey Cagle, are scheduled to be on hand to mark the beginning of the areas first charter school.  Construction is also underway for a new School of Engineering and Robotics at the College & Career Academy.  The new construction will be ready by next fall.
