David
Cox has been sworn in as the board member representing the
Model/Johnson community on the Floyd County Board of Education. He
replaces Mark Hufstetler, who resigned at the regular June
board meeting.
The board discussed the person
to fill the Model/Johnson position at the June meeting. The
board members agreed that Cox would be the logical choice to
fill the position because he was running unopposed for the
seat and would be elected to fill the post in January. Bryan
Shealy, board chairman, was asked to contact Cox to see if
he would be interested in joining the board early.
Mr. Cox agreed
to join the board and was appointed to the board on Wednesday,
June 11. He will now complete the current
term through the end of the year and continue as a board member
for the four-year term that begins in 2009.
David Cox is a retired educator who has worked in both secondary
and post-secondary education. He spent 17 years teaching
and coaching in public schools in the area. He most recently
worked with Coosa Valley Technical College for 12 years as
an administrator.
The Cox family has had two
sons graduate from Model High School and currently has five
grandchildren attending Floyd County Schools.
